1991 First GSM network officially opened.

1993 First DCS1800 (now called GSM1800) system brought into commercial operation in the UK.

1995 Reading Laboratory established for FTA of mobile terminals.

1996 First commercial GSM1900 cellular operator in the US.

1998 First call using a W-CDMA terminal in DoCoMo's trial network in Japan.

1999 FTA scheme replaced with R&TTE / GCF. Reading Laboratory obtains FQAA certification authorising AnnexV and GCF terminal certification.

2000 First commercial GPRS networks launched.

2000 GCF Certification started, with first terminal GCF certified 15 May 2000 (Nokia 6210).

2001 Ericsson and Vodafone UK make the world's first WCDMA voice call over commercial network, and Nokia successfully completes call on a GSM 850 MHz network.

2003 Cingular Wireless announce world's first commercial deployment of wireless services using Enhanced Data rate for Global Evolution (EDGE) technology.

2004 Imperium Test Lab accredited under ISO 17025, with independent laboratory status for GSM, GPRS and EDGE.

2004 Imperium Test Lab PTCRB Certification obtained, authorising for PTCRB submissions.

2005 Imperium Test Lab ISO 17025 scope extended to include 3G - Protocol, RF, SIM, Audio, RRM, ISHO and MMS application enabler testing.

2005 Imperium Test Lab PTCRB accreditation extended to include 3G.

2005 Vodafone make first HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access) data call.


2006 Nortel and Qualcomm complete HSDPA mobile data calls, achieving speeds of 7.2 MB/s.

2006 Scope of ISo 17025 extended to include additional FDD bands, AMR Rx Qual and Interlab USIM.

2006 ITL relocation to larger premises. Addition of an other screeded room and dedicated customer area were included in the move.

2007 Scope of 17025 extended to include Video Telephony and HSDPA
